Changing reimbursement methodologies and additional technological options have escalated the importance of case management in healthcare. These changes encourage providers of healthcare to move from a focus on acute illness to a focus on preventive illness and promoting wellness as well as keeping in mind the special needs of the elderly and chronically ill. Case managers, who are frequently registered nurses or social workers, play an integral role in case management programs.

The purpose of the Case Management Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) program is to provide a nursing or allied health care professional new to a case manager role and those working with the team an understanding of case management. Case Management is, also, an excellent competency review tool, and lends itself well to continuing education. This unique system is written from both the nursing and social work perspectives having the benefit of authors from both disciplines.
Following completion, the participant will have an understanding of the following concepts:

healthcare payment methodologies
levels of care available" both inpatient and outpatient”
components of a case management program
types of case management
the process of case management and how it relates to the nursing process
the tools used by case managers
goals and outcomes of a case management program
skills needed to be a case manager
This system also offers a student workbook and comprehensive instructor guide.
